01 — The Series

There's only one difference between the things that can make you and the things that can break you: you.

EmpowerED is a web documentary series featuring lifelong quadriplegic Christopher Powell as he engages people whose lives have been significantly impacted by an event, condition, or circumstance that has forced an unimaginable new reality and an immediate pivot away from their former way of life.

Accidents, grief, loss and disease derail future expectations — and are the parts of life we seldom anticipate or adequately plan for. For Chris Powell, life's challenges have never been an ending destination, only mile markers to his progress after charting a brand new course.

“The only difference between post-traumatic stress and post-traumatic growth is the choice we make — both are formed from adversity.”

02 — The Host

Christopher Powell

Cerebral palsy — an incurable congenital condition that significantly impairs mobility, balance, speech and learning function — was a hurdle set before Chris Powell from birth, foretelling a life of insurmountable odds.

Overcoming those odds quickly became exactly the kind of mathematical equation he learned to dominate with his eyes closed. EmpowerED is the curriculum he has followed — and the syllabus he now teaches.

Resilience, intellect and mathematics have never been among his disabilities. They are the very skills that gift him the expertise to now empower others.

03 — The Format

Every episode, one equation

01

Name the challenge

Each guest arrives at a hard, specific moment — an accident, a diagnosis, a loss — and says it plainly on camera.

02

Do the math

Chris reframes the situation the way he has since birth: as an equation with variables, constraints and a solvable path.

03

Chart a new course

The episode ends on one concrete move forward. Not closure — a mile marker.

04 — Season One

When meaning disappears, people choose to leave

The reported reasons behind assisted death are not primarily pain — they are loss of autonomy and loss of the activities that made life feel worth living. That is precisely the gap EmpowerED speaks into.
